It is not uncommon to continue to experience episodes of dissociation after having a near-death experience, a walk-in, or an energy download. However, it is very important to stay in the body after such a blast of energy in order to anchor the faster vibrating energy and function as a spirit in a human body. Yet, this is one of the greatest challenges for a new walk-in.
In general, we ignore many kinesthetic sensations and this puts us on autopilot and disconnects us from our bodies. That disconnect keeps us from using our body as the sensory or guidance tool it was created to be. The way to get fully present in your body is to really notice how the body feels at any given moment. Our body’s sensations are one of the many ways our higher guidance speaks to us, but so few listen—some are even afraid of what they might feel. The advice I give my coaching clients is to begin interacting with the five physical senses—engage constantly.
Mindfulness
These are some things you can do every day at any time to become more aware and get in touch with your body.
- Notice where your body is touching the surface upon which you are sitting or lying. How does it feel?
- Slowly chew your food; really taste it and feel the texture. Lick your fingers!
- Talk aloud to yourself, and listen to the guidance you hear. Ask questions of your guidance—you may find yourself speaking out the answers.
- Look at yourself in the mirror. Do not judge; just observe and be okay with what you see.
- Touch your body and allow sensual feelings to arise.
- Pay attention to how it feels to release waste from your body when you use the toilet.
- Listen to your own voice as you speak.
- Feel the fabric of the clothes you are wearing.
- Smell your skin.
- Notice the temperature of your body. Are you warm, hot, or cold?
- Sit still and listen to what you hear around you.
- Pet an animal, and notice how the fur feels.
These are so simple, but they remind us to pay attention to our feelings. I encourage you to explore more ways to tune into the messages of your body as you practice simple things like the ones listed above.
I know this works. It not only helps you stay in your body and appreciate all its functions, it helps you begin to love yourself unconditionally. Here is an unedited excerpt from an email a client sent me after our first coaching session in which I asked her to try the body sensing exercise.
When my husband came home last night, I told him that I needed some down time and went to bed around 9 p.m., which is early for me. I was very thoughtful about everything I did. For example, when I washed my face, it was amazing to realize that I do not look in the mirror when I wash my face. I did so last night and spent several minutes getting re-acquainted with it and noticed the things that have changed.
I burned some essential oils and did my grounding and centering exercise. I lay in bed for several minutes to simply listen to body. I learned many things:
I noticed that I clench my stomach. I had to remind myself several times to let go and relax those muscles. I suspect that I have spent a good majority of my life with a clenched belly. So I rubbed my stomach and did a lot of deep breathing.
I also heard a little voice that kept telling me that my body was a work of art–a sculpture. That it needed to chip away at the unnecessary parts (extra weight), but I was working against it. “Just stretch” kept looping through my head. So I am considering yoga or Pilates.
I kept going back to two specific events in my life. Both were very negative experiences and each time, I gained a significant amount of weight (30+ pounds). Again, this voice spoke, telling me it is time to forgive, let go, and move on. I found this significant because I hadn’t consciously thought about either incident in a very long time. I actually fought these thoughts initially, but I know there is a message there for me. Now that I am not afraid, I am willing to look for clarity.
I woke up this morning very clear headed. I have been fighting a cold/sinus infection for days. Yet, I feel about 60-70 percent better! Although I am not excited about my job, I am not feeling the dread that I wake up with most mornings.
I also appreciate your article on feelings vs. emotions. I can say that my intuition “gut feeling” is almost always right, even when I was a little girl. Yet I have failed or been less successful because I second guessed myself (or allowed others to do it for me).
The more you practice this type of mindfulness, the more you will stay in the now moment and hear your higher guidance. It will also quiet much of the mind chatter that rules our thoughts. With consistent practice, you will gain the ability to make conscious choices about what you feel, say, and do. I would love to know what you discover by doing this simple exercise.
