Someone recently asked me if I thought God was all love or if He/She was both good and evil. Is there another force besides a loving Creator God? One that makes war, hates its own creation, and seeks to kill, steal, and destroy for its own gain?
I’ve pondered this question many times myself. I may not have an answer, but I have some thoughts on this.
First of all, I believe that God is energy that exists in everything, and not an entity somewhere up in heaven. It does not have personality disorders or character flaws as many humans have assigned to it as a deity. God is consciousness. It does not play by our rules. it does not limit itself by accepting the labels we humans have assigned to it. We label our experiences as good or bad based on how pleasant or unpleasant we are made to feel by having interfaced with the experience.
Opposites exist on Earth, and I suppose the same is true in other realities. There are two sides to every coin. Heads and tails, light and dark, male and female, introvert and extrovert, good and bad, the list goes on. If God is “ALL THAT IS” then it must include every possibility. It must contain all expressions and experiences.
Good and evil are equal forces on the extreme outer or opposite ends of a frequency pole such as described in The Hermetic Principle of Polarity of The Kybalion. The Seven Principles are discussed and explained at http://www.sacred-texts.com/eso/kyb/kyb04.htm.
The Principle of Polarity
“Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.” –The Kybalion.
The third of Sir Issac Newton’s laws of physics states something to the effect that “every reaction has an equal and opposite reaction.”
What happens if one object (or energy) does not push back when it meets resistance? Would it not continue to be acted upon and pushed backward or moved toward the end of its polarity? It would create imbalance. If the feminine principle of love, passivity, receptivity, and “drawing in” was met with hate, aggression, force, and pushing out, it would continue going backward toward its pole. The feminine would become weaker and swallowed up by the consuming masculine.
This is what we have seen happen in our world. At one time the world worshiped the Goddess or feminine aspect of the divine energy of creation. In the past few thousand years, the gentleness of the feminine has been pushed down and held under in our male-dominate society.
Balance and Harmony
When in balance, masculine and feminine energies bring out the characteristics best suited to support one another. A woman assertively stands up for her children when threatened. She gives gentle love and tenderly feeds her children. A man is allowed to cry or express emotions without being judged. He receives nurturing from the female while fiercely protecting her.
In the perfect world, things exist in harmony. The feminine energy steps forward as a leader and the masculine energy steps back and allows itself to be led as is called for in any situation. This dance keeps things in motion, harmonized and balanced.
God Source shows up as the dark/shadow to drive us toward the light within ourselves. The intention is for us to respond by taking ownership of our lives and realize that we are sovereign over our thoughts. Each encounter is an opportunity to deepen the love we have for ourselves and others. It helps us align with our selves as divine beings with incredible creative potential.
We can create more fear or more love depending upon how we manage energy. We can create something to love or something to hate or be afraid of. The choice is ours. We can direct the flow of energy into an enjoyable experience or we can create a fearful experience. We have free will. We can choose light or dark, good or evil, or any pair of opposites you can name. The universe always says yes when we consistently decide what we want to experience.
Allowing things to come into balance requires that we no longer chase anything or run away from anything. We relax into the flow of life and experience “God” fully each moment.
