A profound Kundalini episode sometimes produces an explosive change in someone’s life. Kundalini energy is hot and expansive and can be triggered unexpectedly. Do not be surprised if spiritual progress ignites sensual feelings or sexual desires; Kundalini is primordial energy from which all things are created.
We live in a culture that has a love-hate/come-here-go-away relationship to sex. It is used in advertising campaigns, movies, songs, and jokes, which seems to indicate that sex is to be highly sought after. On the opposite end of the spectrum, families, society, and religions frown upon those who have or enjoy sex—especially if it is done outside the accepted social norm of married male/female monogamous relationships. Most people never make the connection that their sexual energy is life force energy and therefore the key to their creativity and vitality. In honoring your true self, you must honor this energy that is always alive within you.
I invite my coaching clients to simply feel what they feel and not be ashamed or afraid of these “shadow side” feelings. Just because you feel sexual energy does not mean you must have sex. You can use sexual or erotic energy to create anything you want and enhance every aspect of your life. Many goddess cultures use sexual energy in ritual and ceremony to manifest their intentions.
Erotic energy can be moved about within the body, and you can generate more of it. Because you can harness this energy, direct it, and cause it to take form, it is definitely useful when participating in an artistic expression or attempting to manifest something. It can move you to another state of awareness from which you can create anything from a beautiful piece of music to a new job. That is the whole point of having sexual energy. Without it, there is no birth or creation of anything.
In Chapter 11 of Think and Grow Rich, Napolean Hill writes about the mystery of sex transmutation.
When driven by this [sex] desire, men develop keenness of imagination, courage, will-power, persistence, and creative ability unknown to them at other times . . . When harnessed, and redirected . . . , [it] may be used as powerful creative forces in literature, art, or in any other profession . . . it should be given an outlet through forms of expression which enrich the body, mind, and spirit of man.
During meditation (or at any time—even unprovoked) you may feel sexual energy moving through your entire body in waves, filling and activating the lower energy centers with desire. And since creativity is within you all the time and is part of who you are, you can channel it for purposes other than having sex. There is a big difference between having an “erotic life” and having a “sex life.” Having sex or an orgasm is not even half of what it means to be energized by erotic energy. Releasing the energy through sexual activity can actually lessen it. When you do not disburse sexual energy through orgasm, it builds and naturally channels into creative expression and helps you do things you might not have had the energy or boldness to do before.
The key is to channel the energy rather than allowing it to dictate your actions or make you a slave to your sex drive. I am not suggesting that you repress or resist sexual urges—that action is fear-based or guilt-driven, which serves no useful purpose other than causing frustration that slows down spiritual progress. Instead, harness this energy and infuse it into everything you do. Your work and life mission can be inspired and your family and friendships can be influenced positively as you interact from a heart filled with love that is activated by sexual energy. From grocery shopping to writing a blog post, it can bring bliss, creativity, and joy as it invites you to enjoy the present moment.
Being under the influence of sexual energy is like being drunk or drugged; it can inspire you to take risks and do things you would not do otherwise. It can lessen the fear you might feel about taking the next step in a business venture or some other opportunity. Before you can direct strong sexual energy toward other useful pursuits, you must be able to hold and flow the energy in your personal space and body. This can be done as you connect with your sacred heart center in the now moment, without being distracted by the constant chatter of the mind.
When you feel sexual energy stirring within you, stay in a space of awareness and feel it as it courses through your body. Notice the way it pulsates and provides a sense of power within you. Simply contain it and allow it to revitalize and heal the body, lift depression, open blockages, dissolve sexual hang-ups, and spark new ideas. As you hold this powerful presence, you can begin to direct the energy toward some creative endeavor by using thought or intention.
Ultimately the energy is within you, and can be activated without the influence of another person. However, tantric exploration, practicing heart connection, or sending/receiving energy with another person can increase this flow of energy even more and bring euphoric pleasure to the entire body and emotions.
